A Harlan county man who exchanged gunfire with his uncle was struck in the head by a bullet and later died from his injuries, state police said Sunday.

39 yr old Mark Vanwinkle, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his head just before midnight on Friday according to the Kentucky state police. Vanwinkle and his uncle, Harry Vanwinkle, 52, of Dayton, Ohio, fired on each other according to authorities. Harry Vanwinkle was struck in the abdomen and flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. State police are investigating the shooting, but said in a statement said they don't know the cause. Mark Vanwinkle was pronounced dead at a local hospital by the Harlan County Coroner.
