93.1 WDHR began
its life in 1966 as an easy listening station at 92.1 on
the FM dial. The original
call letters were WPKE-FM, and the station was a sister to
WPKE-AM. In 1973, the call letters were changed to WDHR, and
a country music format was launched to great fanfare. The format
was instantly popular, and WDHR became the source for country
music in east Kentucky. On December 17, 1991, the Federal Communications
Commission authorized WDHR to change frequencies to 93.1, and
increase power to 50,000 watts. Already a powerhouse, WDHR
skyrocketed in popularity and has maintained market dominance
in the region. Big Country 93.1 WDHR plays today’s country
hits, and is an affiliate of the ABC Radio Network.
