PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter announced today that he is withdrawing his candidacy for the upcoming non-partisan mayoral election, citing a period of deep reflection with his family over the Thanksgiving holiday. Lawrence County man killed in armed confrontation with police
MARTHA, Ky. — A Lawrence County man is dead, following a confrontation with police. Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 14 went to a home at Martha just before midnight on Saturday, trying to locate a woman wanted on an assault charge. Police say 69-year-old Timothy Keeton came out of a neighboring home and told the officers to turn their lights off or he would shoot them out. Police say Keeton went back inside and returned with a gun. Troopers told Keeton to drop the weapon, but say he pointed it in their direction instead, resulting in officers shooting him. […]

APPALACHIA, Va. — A new statement by the attorney for the family of a Wise County high school football coach who disappeared while under investigation on child porn charges sheds new light on the last time he was seen. Union High School Coach Travis Lee Turner, 46, was discovered missing when police went to his home to question him Nov. 20. Martin County man pleads guilty to federal drug charge
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Martin County man has pleaded guilty to a federal drug charge in Huntington, W.Va. Kody Harless, 26, of Tomahawk, pleaded guilty on Monday to possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute. Officials say Harless obtained 4.75 grams of fentanyl from a source in Huntington. He was arrested in a traffic stop afterward and reportedly admitted to police that he had intended to distribute some of the drug. Pound woman admits distributing cocaine, psilocin
ABINGDON, Va. — A Wise County woman has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges of distributing cocaine and psilocin. Emily Dawn McCoy, of Pound, has signed a plea agreement admitting to the charges. In a signed statement stipulating to the facts in the case, McCoy admitted to working with others to acquire and distribute the drugs from February to September of last year. Investigators used undercover informants to buy cocaine from her five times, also obtaining psilocin on one of those occasions.
